During the opening reception of the Centennial Exhibition, WP&S presented Appreciation Awards for outstanding support, promotion and years of dedicated service on behalf of the visual artists of Wisconsin to:
  • James Auer - Art Critic, Journal/Sentinel.
  • Jane Brite - First Director, Walker’s Point Center for the Arts and former Assistant Curator for Regional Art, Milwaukee Art Museum.
  • Gary Gresl - Past WP&S President who instated WP&S Chapters.
  • Tom Lidtke - Director, West Bend Art Museum.
  • Ruth Muehlmeier - Past WP&S President who gained incorporation for WP&S.
  • Janet Treacy - Researcher/Writer who put together the History of WP&S.
Additional Appreciation Awards in recognition of cooperative and active participation in supporting Wisconsin visual arts were given to:
  • Porter Butts (posthumously) - Asst. Professor of Social Education, UW-Madison and author of the first comprehensive book published on Wisconsin art and history, published by the Madison Art Association, 1936.
  • William Gerdts - Internationally known, leading authority on American painting, previously Professor of Art History and Director of the Ph.D. Program in Art History at the Graduate School of the City University of New York. Author of Art Across America, Abbeville Press, 1990; published in three volumes, volume two includes Wisconsin art history.
  • Peter C. Merrill - Professor of Linguistics, Emeritus, Florida Atlantic University, Boca Raton, and author of numerous articles and books on early Wisconsin art and artists including German-American Artists In Early Milwaukee, a biographical dictionary published by Max Kadi Institute for German-American Studies at UW-Madison, 1997.
  • Jane B. Pettit - Ongoing financial support.
  • Robert Ragir and the Ragir Foundation - Ongoing financial support.
  • Harold Walker - WP&S Webmaster contributing direction, talent, and time.
WP&S also recognized the individual contributions of time and talent given in support of WP&S by the following members Steve Ballard, Peg Haubert, Sally Gauger Jensen and Peggy Flora Zalucha.
